To direct is to find the truth in every story and to tell that story with respect, humor and compassion. To understand who the characters are to one another, their cause and effect. Each moment has its own breath and it is a director’s job to inspire their actors to find that breath, giving life to the characters and to ensure the integrity of the world they create.

I’ve always found myself surrounded by incredibly talented writers; they are always shifting, searching and building a world from the ground up where all are invited to join. Unlike a good book, which I do love, a play forces us to confront humanity.  It’s right in front of us. There is no pause, no delete, no screen between the audience and the experience. It is an alluring world that brings our humanity to light, raw and natural. We experience it together, as director, actor, audience member, and community.  It’s fascinating and captivating when done right.

I have been working with new scripts my entire career. My first performance as an actor was in a full length play based around the monologues in Runaways, titled An Evening in the Life. I moved forward later in school when I was cast in a lyrical theatre/dance piece, entitled Persephone.  I then began to write and direct my own pieces. After college I was recruited by colleagues to direct new plays for short plays festivals, now I am a founding member of The Playwrights Continuum as a, director, actor and advisor. Throughout my career it seems new works have chosen me, I have simply decided jump in on the adventure.
